PRINTING.
ROTOGRAVURE.
AN INNOVATION
SINCE 1895.

The term "rotogravure" in Italian identifies the printing method mainly used for food packaging, periodicals, and magazines.

Since 1895, when the German K. Klietsch conceived it, rotogravure printing has been extended to industrial use since the early 1900s. Rotogravure printing in reels is suitable for all types of flexible materials: plastic, aluminium or nylon films, which has become an essential reference today for the creation of flexible food wrappers and, in particular, for any creation for the food sector, later extending its use to gift wrap, wallpaper and more generally wherever particular flexible materials are used. The raw materials used in the rotogravure printing sector guarantee great attention to respect for the environment, and the finished product allows for the guidelines of Community Regulations to be followed carefully. Rotogravure printing guarantees flexibility, elasticity, notable production speed, and consistency in the printing results. The system is straightforward and is compatible with a wide variety of inks, which must be chosen based on the type of printing support.

The printing process starts with using a copper roller with engraved printed subjects, which collects the ink from a collection tank and deposits it directly on the printing support. The subjects are engraved on the coating of the copper cylinder using small cells of different sizes and depths as engraving units. The areas engraved by wedges are dipped by rotating on the ink tank, and the excess is removed by a sort of spatula called a doctor's blade. Through pressure, the engraved coil transfers the ink directly onto the support material, which, having a different surface tension, collects the dye directly from the recessed parts. The ink, settling on a non-porous and perfectly smooth surface, has the characteristic of remaining bright and with a high saturation.

Rotogravure printing or rotogravure is synonymous with very high quality in the creations and consistency in the results in the printing process.
